Course overview

Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) delivers the theoretical and technical knowledge to effectively operate within the global sporting industry. You will investigate the historical foundations of sport, management principles, cultural influences and the role of governance in sporting competitions. This qualification will give you a keen understanding of how sport positively impacts local communities and wider society.

This course is designed to equip you with the broad knowledge and skills required build a career in the sports management field. Throughout your studies, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of fundamental business, marketing and management principles, explore the role sport plays in building communities and analyse the importance of professional sport in contemporary society.

Areas of Study: Academic and business communications, marketing in digital era, customer experience management, understanding people and organisations, sport consulting project, sports law, managing teams, sports marketing, managing sports facilities, introduction to sports management, industry consulting project, health and advocacy strategies. Students can also choose electives in the areas of developing people and culture, project management, sales and negotiation strategies and venture ideation.

Career Opportunities: Sports tourism officer, events manager, community organiser, sports project manager, sport journalist/promoter.

Practical experience: An important element of this course is the placement of the students with an endorsed host organisation(s). Work placements provide a valuable resource for you to develop hands-on practical experience to ensure you graduate confident and job-ready. A key task will be the completion of a reflective journal covering the experience and the identification and analysis of key learning outcomes. Work placement hours: 300 hours.

Standard entry

  • Recent secondary Qualify for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) or equivalent recent year 12 qualification (including the International Baccalaureate Diploma). Higher Ed Completed or partially completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution, or Completed a University Foundation Studies, Bridging or Enabling program Work-Life Other Completed a non-recent SACE or equivalent secondary education qualification with a competitive selection rank, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB), or STAT multiple choice test (optional), or Personal competencies and/or employment experience (optional) If you have studied at higher education level in the last two years, you must not have accumulated more than a total of two full-time years of higher education study in order to use your STAT/PCA/Employment results. If you have been employed in the Australian Defence Force you may be eligible to apply for an undergraduate course on the basis of your service. See here .
