Course overview
The Bachelor of Information Technology (Digital Forensics) pathway to Honours joins Forensic and Analytical Chemistry and Forensic Biology to form one of the most comprehensive suites of forensic science degrees available in Australia. Accredited by the Australian Computer Society at the professional level and recognised internationally under the Seoul Accord, graduates meet the academic requirements for attaining chartered status as ICT professionals. Students completing this degree will have the opportunity to undertake a one year honours degree in the fourth year.
This degree aims to provide a strong understanding of both the theoretical and the practical aspects of digital forensics and electronic discovery investigations. Students will complete core (compulsory) and option topics in areas such as data acquisition and validation, forensic methodologies, file systems examination, graphics file investigation, network and email investigation. Students will also be able to focus on specialist units like Forensic Science, Digital and Computer Forensics, Forensic Criminalistics, Internet and Network Forensics, Mobile Device Forensics, Evidence Evaluation and Crime Scene Management.
The Honours year allows students to complete advanced coursework topics and a major research project on a real-world IT issue or challenge.
Practical experience
Students will have the opportunity to gain first-hand industry experience with a 6-week industry placement. Students will undertake industry-oriented project work and develop all the necessary applied and practical skills for a career in IT.
Your career
The degree aims to prepare graduates for careers in IT security operation, criminal investigations, corporate investigation and auditing or pursue postgraduate research or advanced industrial investigation utilising their research skills.

Switch between domestic ATAR data and international qualification equivalents.

If the student's current English result is below the direct-entry requirement, consider the university's recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package. When the student successfully completes the approved pathway at the required level, the university may accept that pathway for English entry without requiring a new IELTS, TOEFL or PTE result.
